Crafting a compassion-led, comprehensive approach to community safety that includes shoring up the mental health, social, and economic safety nets in partnership with the county government.

  • Fully implement the Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (MACRO), a community response program for non-violent, non-emergency 911 calls that uses a compassionate care first response model grounded in empathy, service, and community.
  • Ensure full funding for the city’s Department of Violence Prevention to prioritize combating domestic violence and street outreach
  • Strategize how law enforcement resources are deployed to ensure focus on serious crimes, improving response times, and coordinating with community-driven crime reduction efforts
  • Establish a county-wide beautification effort that engages neighborhood clean-up crews, public art installations, neighborhood-based arts festivals, and small business facade improvements
  • Requiring the creation of a new culture of community accountability within the Oakland Police Department as the department exits federal oversight
